Dining Area

When moving into our first apartment, it was the spring of 2020. I assume everyone who had been around at that time in Austria knows that we have been in a total lockdown due to COVID. Therefore, it was impossible to shop at local stores. Furthermore, online shops were struggling with the overwhelming amount of orders.

As you can imagine, it wasn’t easy to find furniture, decorations, or anything that you could think of that would be essential for moving into a new apartment. We got creative and used a lot of older furniture that we had used in our teenage rooms and bits and bobs we found in our parent's basements.

Our dining situation was limited to a small wooden dining table (I definitely wouldn’t have chosen this particular one in the first place). We used the side part of our couch (which had been the old one from my mom btw) to sit on; it wasn’t a permanent solution as you can imagine. I ordered dining room chairs on Westwing; however, we had to wait for about eight weeks for them to be delivered.

We got creative and used the white wooden board from my old desk, placed it on top of the ugly dining table, and fixed it with anti-slip mats. When the chairs finally had been delivered to our apartment we also found an old but quite cute brown rug in my boyfriend’s parents' basement. We eventually created a dining room area; however, the table was too small since we love to host dinner parties or play Settlers of Catan with friends and family.

We were on the hunt for the perfect dining table for almost two years. To be honest, we would have found one earlier, but we weren’t consequently looking. One day around the 30th of December in 2021, almost two years later, we found a dining table we loved and would fit the style we were going for. After purchasing it, I ordered a bigger rug (without the ugly pattern the first one had) and finally, our dining area was completed. For styling, I used beige placemats, a white vase, brown candle holders, and a bouquet of dried eucalyptus to finish the look.
