The Importance of Having a Color Scheme and How to Create One

Color plays a vital role in how we perceive and interact with the world around us. It influences

our emotions, thoughts, decisions on a subconscious level and our overall well-being. In various contexts, but especially in Interior Design, having a well-thought-out color scheme can make a significant impact. A color scheme is a set of colors chosen to work together harmoniously, creating a consistent, cohesive and visually appealing aesthetic. Here's why having a color scheme is important and how you can create one:

Moreover, throughout the seasons, you can exchange/ add accents to create e.g. a cozy space in fall by using orange/ brown tones, a festive home around Christmas by implementing dark greens or festive touches of red or a refreshing home during spring using shades of pink.

• Define Your Purpose and Mood

Determine the purpose and intended mood of your project. Are you aiming for a professional,

playful, or elegant vibe? Different colors convey different emotions, so choose colors that align with your objectives.

• Choose a Dominant Color

Start with one dominant color that will be the main representative of your project. This color will set the tone for the rest of the scheme. In my home my dominant colors are white(s) and cream colors. These neutral shades create an atmosphere of tranquility and elegance. The dominant color serves as a canvas, allowing the secondary colors to harmonize and evoke the desired ambiance throughout the living space.

• Decide for 2-3 Secondary Colors

Secondary colors can serve as complementary accents to the primary color scheme. Moreover by using secondary colors strategically, they can draw attention of the eye to specific areas or objects within a space. For instance, a vibrant purple accent wall can become a striking focal point in an otherwise neutral room. As a rule of thumb choose 2 primary colors, 2-3 secondary and 1-2 accent colors.
