When living in the U.S. as an Au Pair I experienced my first “real” Halloween, since we don’t celebrate Halloween in Austria. I remember when I was a child I would dress up and trick or treat around the neighborhood, although my parents weren’t excited about the whole thing. This year it hasn’t been about the trick or treating but more about decorating.
Last year we threw a little Halloween party with some friends; however, it had been last minute and we bought the last few bits we found at local stores. This year, I started to shop for Halloween in September.
I planned to decorate for Halloween neutrally - I didn’t even know if that would be possible since Halloween is often related to orange Jack O Lanterns etc. But if you have been around you know my love for whites, creams, beige and neutral colors.
I was on the hunt for neutral Halloween decor. As you can see in the pictures I think I did well. Our apartment has been decorated in a spooky but aesthetic way. I paid a lot of attention to the details: spiderwebs, spiders all over our apartment, and other bits and bobs. Benjamin Button, our skeleton, and his little friends were hanging out and having a good time and even our cats made friends with them and snuggled up on the couch beside the spooky skeletons.
Overall I love how the Halloween decorations turned out. But for now, I am excited to decorate for Christmas.
